Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and personable Optician to join our clinical team. The ideal candidate will bring both technical expertise and a passion for patient care, helping patients find eyewear solutions that enhance their vision, comfort, and confidence.
Responsibilities:
• Work closely with optometrists to interpret prescriptions and assist in patient care
• Guide patients in selecting frames and lenses that meet their visual and lifestyle needs
• Measure, fit, and adjust eyewear to ensure optimal vision and comfort
• Educate patients on lens options, coatings, and proper eyewear maintenance
• Process and manage eyewear orders, ensuring accuracy and timely delivery
• Maintain inventory and support daily operations of the optical dispensary
• Provide friendly, knowledgeable, and professional service to every patient
Qualifications:
• Licensed Optician
• Minimum 2 years of experience in an optometry or optical setting preferred (not necessary)
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

• Familiarity with optical software systems and current eyewear technologies

Key Responsibilities:
Customer Engagement & Service
- Provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere and exceptional customer service.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries via phone and in person.
- Schedule appointments, confirm bookings, and recall patients with attention to detail.
- Troubleshoot and resolve patient concerns to ensure high satisfaction.
- Help achieve store sales goals by providing expert guidance to customers on eyewear.
- Collaborate with frame representatives to source the latest styles and trends.
Appointment Management & Billing
- Manage appointment scheduling and patient check-ins efficiently.
- Generate invoices and handle direct billing to Third-Party providers.
Eyewear Selection & Dispensing
- Assist customers in frame selection based on prescription, facial features, and style preferences.
- Explain lens and frame features and the benefits of various coatings confidently.
- Accurately measure pupil and segment heights for precise fittings.
- Dispense, adjust, and repair eyeglasses with care and accuracy.
- Monitor job statuses with optical labs, ensuring timely delivery for patients.
- Order contact lenses and notify patients when their orders are ready for pickup.
Knowledge & Education
- Stay up-to-date with the latest eyewear technologies and confidently communicate these advancements to customers.
- Perform optical pre-tests for the optometrists and collaborate on prescription accuracy.
- Educate customers on proper eyewear care and maintenance.
Store Maintenance & Inventory
- Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing store environment.
- Monitor inventory levels, restocking, and rotating as necessary, while ensuring products are fresh and in stock.
- Manage competing tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of store cleanliness.
- Showcase strong multitasking abilities, effectively prioritizing tasks and managing competing priorities.
Qualifications and Skills:
Experience & Expertise
- Minimum of 2 years of optical experience preferred, though optician licensure is not required.
- Knowledge of frames, lenses, and contact lenses.
- Familiarity with sales techniques and optical software is an asset.
- Experience with optical pre-testing is a plus.
Communication & Medical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of medical terminology related to optometry.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and colleagues.
- Ability to problem-solve and think critically in fast-paced environments.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.

Full time office manager position in desirable Nelson, BC! Our office is looking for a manager with experience in an optical setting. Office manager will be responsible for:
-Upholding our office’s core values of respect, knowledge, and accountability
-Oversee day-to-day operations and ensure that staff are completing their tasks in an appropriate and timely fashion
-Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with each of our 3 full time staff members to ensure employee satisfaction and touch base on job performance
-Coordinate excellent patient care with our Front Desk Lead and Owner Optometrist
In addition to management responsibilities, we are a small team so the manager will be expected to fill in with routine patient care when other staff members are unable.
Hourly rate between $25-$35/hr depending on experience.
